Logo Illustration...

Here's a portrait that was done for a friend who wanted a logo design. He wanted something that was more illustrative and emphasized his 5 string bass; he's a killer player. 100% digital airbrush in Photoshop CS3.

Another look...

In an earlier post [here] I gave a sneak peek of an animation project I'm currently working on. Here is a finished look at the same piece:

I completed it with a background and foreground for the characters' setting and finished it off by adding some cinematic post processing effects.

Below is a look at the first sketch that started the image:

3D Backgrounds

The following pictures are some early 3d modeling backgrounds. They are from so long ago that I don't remember when I did them or what I used. I believe they are from 2001 and made with Maya 4 and/or Terragen.

Transformers: Kup & Hot Rod

This three page story, drawn by Rui Onishi and colored by me, was featured in the comic for the 2012 Auto Assembly Transformers convention.

It was an honor coloring Rui's lines and I longed to work with her for years. I was VERY nervous about it at first, as her use of blacks in this story are very expressive and loose. I think my anime cel-shade coloring style mixed very well with her's in the end. I'd love to do more work with her!

Note: I decided to color the characters in their more traditional cartoon palette rather than the comic colors. I think this gives the characters more continuity. Below are all three pages, in their original form, without text:

Transformers: Mosaic - Destructive Character

Here's a Transformers piece that I colored a few years back. It's set in an alternate TF reality called the Shattered Glass universe. This is where the sides are reversed and the Decepticons are the good guys and the Autobots are the bad guys.

I'm very proud of this piece and this is the first time I worked with Jake Isenberg, who I work with on the Heidinger art. Also of note is one of the occasional pseudonyms I go by, Kal Kyle. Below is my original colored art, without the text. Enjoy.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I usually don't do fan art, but I love the turtles! This is the way I would render them if i got a crack at 'em. I always hated how they looked like frogs with shells rather than turtles, so I gave them more detail to the shells and more pronounced, reptilian beaks with nostrils.

SIDE NOTE: the original Ninja Turtles in the comics (which I prefer) all wore red bandanas, not the colorful ones like on the cartoon and movies.

Below are the uncolored inks and my original sketch.

Heidinger Alt. Cover

Here's an "alternate version" of the prologue cover which is, in fact, the original coloring concept that I had. I wanted to try a different style other than the way I usually color and pick a style that stays away from the typical "modern comic look" that colorists seem to emulate.

Since this is my own project, it gives me a chance to artistically experiment. I wanted a more graphic design style, mixed with retro and euro. This was one of those rare times that it came out exactly the way I envisioned it.

New animation project

While working on my baby, my comic series Heidinger, I'm also doing an animation project on the side. I'm super excited about it because it involves working with my sister, who is an incredible writer. She is co-creating it with me, which gives me more time to draw, so I don't have to think about the plotting too much.

The project is obviously in a sci-fi genre world, and will include chicks, and aliens, and robots and spaceships and other cool shit.

I can't say much more about it at this time but I want to give a sneak peak. Here is one of the pieces that I've done for the project, in my animation style. Like in animation, the background and characters are done separately, so the background is missing, giving it that "animation cel" look. I may post a walk-thru of this process at some later point. Check back soon!

Feeling guilty...

Yep, I feel guilty.

Mainly cuz I haven't posted in a while and I REALLY want to. Truth is, I'm finishing up another children's book at the moment, which will be my last freelance job for quite some time- maybe ever. Well, I MIGHT do a few logos here and there. Once the children's book is done, in less than a month, I'll start work on my OWN damn projects and portfolio work. Namely:

-Posting here more regularly about my art process, methods and influences
-Creating more in depth tutorials
-Filling my damn store with shit to buy

and last but not least...

-Unveiling more art from my number one project, HEIDINGER!

Ok, I'm excited now so off I go! See yall in 30!
